Getting started with Home Care

Home care provides support for aging individuals right in the comfort of their own homes. Before applying for care, it's important to verify your eligibility with My Aged Care, which serves as your initial step for accessing government-funded aged care services. If you are eligible, they will coordinate a free assessment to thoroughly understand your specific needs and circumstances.

Applying for Aged Care in 4 simple steps

Step 1

Understanding your options

Regardless of your specific situation, needs, or background, it's important to know that help is available. Begin by exploring the different types of care provided at myagedcare.gov.au.

By familiarising yourself with these options, you can make informed decisions that align with your personal needs and circumstances.

This first step is crucial in ensuring you receive the appropriate care and support necessary to maintain your quality of life.

Step 2

Get assessed & apply

Access to all subsidised care begins with an eligibility check through My Aged Care. Depending on your needs, you will either:

- Consult with the Regional Assessment Service (RAS) for low-level needs.
- Engage with the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) for more complex needs.

To initiate the process, you can call My Aged Care at 1800 200 422.

Step 3

Receive your support plan

Based on the results of your assessment, you may qualify for various types of support, ranging from basic home assistance to more comprehensive, higher-level care, or possibly residential care.

The specific type of care you are eligible for is directly linked to your assessed needs, ensuring that the support provided aligns effectively with your individual requirements.

This ensures that you receive the most appropriate and beneficial care tailored to your situation.

Step 4

Get help organising your care

Once approved, we'll collaborate with you to select the types of care that best suit your needs and preferences within your location. We'll also assist you with understanding the processes, costs, and how to begin your care.

The government subsidy will contribute towards the cost of your care, but there is typically a personal contribution required.

Getting help doesn't need to be complicated. We are here to support you around the clock, every day. If you ever feel uncertain at any stage of your journey, don't hesitate to call us at 1300 152 158.

If you are under 65, assistance is still available to you.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides crucial support for Australians under the age of 65 who require home or residential care due to permanent or significant disabilities. This government-funded program ensures that no one is left without the necessary assistance.

To determine if you are eligible for NDIS support, you can start by completing a quick questionnaire provided below. Alternatively, for more comprehensive information or to apply, you can visit the NDIS website or contact them directly at 1800 800 110.

Additionally, if you are a First Nations person over 50, or if you are over 50 and experiencing homelessness or premature aging, you may qualify for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, which offers various forms of assistance tailored to meet your needs.
